AT&T blocked /b/ and /r9k/, ending net neutrality

Here’s the information I’ve gotten from a thread on /b/:

-Sporadic reports of former BellSouth Customers being blocked are coming in. The majority of forner BellSouth customers are currently NOT BLOCKED. The majority of former SBC Global Customers are.
-Tier 2 support (the non Indian guys) have confirmed that there is a block, have refused to comment further, other than the fact that they decided to contact NetAsset (4chan’s hosting company) regarding it. Current rumormill is that it ISN’T CP- AT&T DSL customers have viruses that DDoS 4chan, using a TON of bandwidth. Bandwidth costs money for AT&T too.

Old info below.
———————-
-Most AT&T DSL (largest ISP in the US, 15.5% of US Internet users) customers ARE currently not able to access img.4chan.org (/b/ & /r9k/)
-There are a few AT&T DSL users that are NOT affected. Kansas, Florida, and Ohio are where we’ve gotten those reports. AT&T is a megacorp made from the smaller pieces it was broken down into in the 80s- different equipment and such.
-AT&T Mobility (Cell Phones) and AT&T Uverse customers ARE NOT AFFECTED.
-It IS NOT a DNS issue. Affected people have tried OpenDNS with no success.
-It IS very visible on a traceroute. It drops within the AT&T network.
-It DOES NOT affect AT&Ts Tier 1 backbone (major bandwidth backbone in US).
-It DOES NOT affect other servers on 4chan.
-People HAVE called customer service (allegedly) and confirmed a block, but agents have denied further info.

Another top 5

Sorry if these things are getting annoying; I’m writing them before I go to sleep to dissuade me from dwelling on negative feelings and stuff. It sounds silly but it seems to be working for me rather well so far. Hopefully I won’t continually list the same things day after day or come upon a day where I can’t think of five good things to rank. I may have to list some fairly mundane things sometimes.

5) Had a bunch of deliciously unhealthy Jack in the Box food.
4) Got a late birthday present that is a toolset, so that I don’t keep taking my dad’s tools and forgetting where I left them.
3) Booty Grabbed about 27,000 gold on Gaia.
2) Started to watch Naruto filler episodes. I’m glad Hinata’s there, but they’ve made her such a pansy compared to previous filler arcs.
1). Played a bunch of Legends of Wrestlemania – got about 700 gamer score.

5) Had a hamburger with 3 types of meat from two different animals
4) Rented WWE Legends of Wrestlemania and Marvel Ultimate Alliance.
3) Read a bit of Astonishing X-Men. Beast and Kitty Pryde were both pretty cool.
2) Played some BESM. My bunny has lightsabers now ^_^.
1) Caught up in Naruto and Bleach, both of which were good for once.

Man, I wanna get up early AND go to sleep late while still getting enough sleep to not be tired.

Last night I dreamed that I was in an arcade playing a bumcg of awesome games, and then some cannibal showed up and started terrorizing me and the two kids who were there. I fled and wound up in my grandpa’s basement. When I got upstairs my mom and grandpa didn’t seem to think that a crazy cannibal was a big problem.

I also recently dreamed that my dad has cancer. I’d be so pissed if that happened.

The internet is truly amazing (non-sarcastic)

This type of thing really doesn’t happen to me very often, but as I use this phone more and more I am becoming so amazed by the things it can do. I know nobody needs to be able to update their blog from anywhere at anytime, especially me, but the fact that I can actually makes me take a step back and look at how outstanding the internet is. I understand that people, including me, can easily begin to rely on it too much, and I’m trying not to, but I’m almost in shock because of it sometimes.

Other than that, I’ve just managed to watch a half-hour of Fallon’s show without getting annoyed. Hopefully this is the beginning of a trend :) .

There’s a new developer interview-type video out for Mass Effect 2 out (the post-e3 reveal); I can’t wait for this game:

I saw Bruno last night – I wonder if he has ruined Ron Paul’s political career? I wasn’t a fan to begin with, but the people on the internet who like him aren’t likely to find whis comments in the movie to be very desirable. That aside, the movie was pretty good. There were many times when I was laughing uncontrollably, but some others where I was averting my eyes (nothing I couldn’t have handled – it was yeally just instinct) and some moments where I felt like I had already seen the movie, but with a character called Borat. Bottom line: if you liked Borat, you’ll probably like it. Otherwise, you may want to stay away.

I got an item in Gaia called “Michael’s memory” – where’s my Billy Mays item? If there is one already somebody should really tell me and/or give me one.

Speaking of MJ, I do like all of his popular songs, but I was never a real fan. I like hearing his songs on the radio but am getting very tired of hearing about him other than that. If he died because of a drug addiction, that’s fine but it doesn’t need to be his legacy. The comparison to Elvis is soooo fitting, but they don’t need to be remembered for their deaths, but their music. Unless you dobly like their music, then listen to something else and be glad you don’t have to endure any new music from them.

I wrote most of this post on my phone last night while I was feeling ill but not tired enough to fall asleep. This technology awes me.

First real blog + today’s top 5 events

Though I fear it will soon give away just how materialistic I am, I’m going to try to post not-quite-daily lists of the top 5 things to happen to me in a day so that I can be reminded more often of the good things in life.

Top 5 things today:
5. Did some Booty Grabbin’ and chattin’ on Gaia.
4.  Finally got speakers hooked up so that I can hear audio from my computer and the TV at the same time.
3. Got this wordpress installed and linked to twitter. Just need to customize it a bit…
2. Got the soft-cover of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which I didn’t even realize was out.
1.  Watched the Billy Mays tribute show, Pitchman, on Discovery :’(

Hmmm…Anything else I wanna talk about? I got me some Uncanny X-Men to read yesterday, #444-449. Thought about picking up some of Astonishing X-Men, but I seem to recall hearing that it wasn’t very good, despite being written at least in part by Joss Whedon.

Gonna see Bruno tomorrow, I believe. Don’t know how I feel about that movie at this point – I liked Borat so I should like it. I still haven’t seen Transformers 2, in part because I’m afraid I’ll like it even though it’s probably pretty crappy.

I bought Regina Spektor’s new CD. I like a few tracks on it, but haven’t actually managed to make it through the entire album – it’s not at the same level as Begin to Hope was.

I’m pretty sure I just saw my (distantish) cousin Matt Hartz on a commercial for a furniture clearinghouse sale. That was unexpected.

I’m probably going to begin rereading the Harry Potter books as soon as I finish Good Omens, which will hopefully be tomorrow.

I still haven’t decided if I’m going to try to get a job or not. My desire to be lazy and my desire to have things have never been quite as conflicting.

My new blog

I’ve owned shumphrey.org for quite a while (a couple of years, maybe?) but have never set up any sort of permanent blog here, but maybe that will change soon. This blog automatically posts a link to my twitter stream, but I decided not to do something similar for myspace or facebook, but I may change that in the future. I can even update this thing from my phone – ridiculous.
